Four decades of successful advocacy, 10,000 cases, procured compensation of crores for clients, panel advocate of 15 banks, author of five legal and six religious' books, weekly column in daily news paper for 26 years and many honorary awards, former Councilor of Surat Municipal Corporation and former chairman of the law committee of the corporation, Advocate Shri Shreyas Desai has many talents.When he started practicing law in 1981, he initially practiced in the Civil Court on behalf of the banks as well as the insurance company in MACT. In the year 1990, Special District Consumer Court was established in Surat under the Consumer Protection Act and Shreyas Desai has been very active in the consumer court and to this day has been an Advocate in number of cases in the Surat District Consumer Court. Till date in Surat, Navsari, Vadodara and Ahmedabad District Consumer Court as well as Gujarat State High Consumer Court (Gujarat State Commission) nearly ten thousand cases related to medical insurance, life insurance, banking services, health services, builder organization related services have been executed and in most of the cases the cause has been successfully adjudicated. Consumers have received relief amounting to crores of rupees in cases handled by him. Shri Shreyas Desai has been instrumental in creating awareness among consumers in Surat and giving justice to the aggrieved and perhaps that is why he has gained an identity as an expert in the field of consumer protection.In a single day, 303 cases were filed concurrently in the Consumer Court in Surat and a kind of Record has been set up. In a public ceremony organized by Rotary Club Surat Round Town in the year 2002 -Grahak Suraksha Ratna award was conferred on him by the then Chief Justice of Gujarat Consumer Court Shri MS Parikh and the then senior cabinet minister of Gujarat government Shri Narottam bhai Patel and was publicly honored. In the year 2006, at Gandhi Smruti Bhavan in a honorary ceremony of the leaders of the Anavil community by Sahitya Sangam, the Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi honored him with shawl and handed over a letter of honor. He has also been honored by Bank of Baroda. Shri Shreyas Desai has been awarded with many such awards. He has also been awarded by the Chief Minister of Gujarat-Shri Bhupendra Patel.In the year 1992, Advocate Shri Shreyas Desai was directly appointed as a Civil Judge (Senior Division) by the Gujarat Government but due to certain circumstances he chose to stay in the profession of advocacy instead of going for the Judiciary.Apart from consumer protection, he has expertise in the field of law of property and laws relating to banking services. Over the years, he has been a panel advocate for dozens of leading banks like State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank.Shri Shreyas Desai has authored following books: -Consumer Protection law in India (2nd edition), -Law of Limitation, -Grahak Suraksha nu Kavach, -Grahak Suraksha Nu Panchamrut, - Nyay Vimedaarne. These books have been published by reputed publishers.The book -Grahak Suraksha Nu Panchamrut was launched by retired Justice of Gujarat High Court and Chief Justice of Gujarat State Chief Consumer Court Shri R.P. Dholakia and Member of Parliament Shri C.R.Patil. Shreyas Desai's weekly column on consumer protection has been regularly published in newspaper for twenty-six years. In addition to it, six books on religious sources and astrological book named -Jaate Juo Janmakshar have been published.He also has good knowledge and portfolio of stock market investment. His wife Mrs. Diptiben Desai has been handling all the administrative responsibilities of Shri Shreyas Desai's office. Shreyas Desai's married daughter Advocate Shri Prachi Desai and son Advocate Shri Ishan Desai are also practicing with him and are successfully handling cases in the Consumer Court. His son-in-law, Shri Arpit Desai is a Taxation Consultant. Father, Advocate Shri Subodh Chandra Desai was the only independent Municipal Corporator elected in the year 1967 and after that Shri Shreyas Desai was elected as Corporator of the Surat Municipal Corporation from the same ward in 1987 and at that time he became the youngest chairman of the Law Committee of Surat Municipal Corporation. Son of Shri Subodh Desai (former Corporator SMC) and mother Mrs. Chitralekha Desai, Advocate Shri Shreyas Desai has been the Corporator of SMC and chairman of the Law Committee.He is currently a member of the Managing Committee of the Sarvajanik Education Society and Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the V.T. Choksi Sarvajanik Law College.
